In my daily reading, I noticed something I hadn't seen before in Psalm 66.
When Joshua was leading God's people into the Promised Land, they faced a huge obstacle: the Jordan River, overflowing its banks. God called them to step into the water before He parted it. What a step of faith!
But there is more. When they were in that very trying place—in the middle of the river, where you would expect them to hurry to the opposite bank, to get to shore and out of harm's way—instead of rushing, they were praising, right in the middle of the Jordan River. They stood still and saw the salvation of the Lord, and we can too.
Psalm 66:6
He turned the sea into dry land;
They went through the river on foot.
There we will rejoice in Him.
Right in the middle of the impossible—
where the waters should have swallowed them—
God's people stood and worshiped.
The enemy has no ground there.
The enemy flees from the place where God's people lift their praise and God's power is openly declared!
Your "river" isn't a barrier. It isn't going to go over your head and drown you or swiftly carry you away...
It's the altar. This is where God has called you to stand and worship.
Stand still.
Bow low.
Rejoice.
In the midst of the torrents, worship the Lord.
Instead of being carried away by the current, let His presence wash your troubles away.
May the Lord bless you today.
